Allen Park DDA History
The Allen Park DDA was created in 1991 under then mayor Gerald Richards to promote economic growth and development. The DDA is controlled by the Downtown Development Authority Act (Act 57 of 2018).
Members of the board of directors are nominated by the mayor and appointed by council. Authority is under the supervision and control of the board of directors. The DDA is comprised of a volunteer board of directors, an executive director and professional staff, and a number of standing and ad hoc committees.
DDA funds are received through Tax Increment Financing (TIF), an assessment on commercial properties in the district. The TIF boundaries are within the city of Allen Park.
The DDA is a Component Unit of the city – a legally separate organization for which the city is financially accountable. The DDA organizes its operations around the Main Street America FourPoint Approach. As such, its work focuses on organizational, marketing, design, and economic development activities.
